GIRL WITH GRIT MUSEUM DAY- WEEKLY

Girl with Grit hosts a FRIDAY MUSEUM DAY that has the goal to saturate more skills through hands-on activities designed for youth. On Fridays, we cover anything from tools to sewing to carpentry to cooking all with our special blend of creativity and craftsmanship.

Most common questions:

Can my son come? Yes! Will he be the only boy? No!

Cost:

$16 one-time drop in / $60 monthly

When:

Every Friday except Holidays and Holiday Weekends! Through Summer, we are off July 4th Weekend. We follow the BISD Holiday Schedule for School Year closures.

SUMMER:

11 to 1 PM (Any youth 6 or below need to come with a parent)
Students may drop-in for up to 2 hours during Summer. Please bring a lunch.

FALL:

Homeschool Families:
1 to 3PM (Any youth 6 or below need to come with a parent)
Students may drop-in for up to 90 minutes during the School Year Session..

Afterschool:
3 to 5PM (Any youth 6 or below need to come with a parent) 

Students may drop-in for up to 90 minutes during the School Year Session.

 

SPRING:

Homeschool Families:

No or Low Tech Museum Days

We have some no or low tech Museum Days where youth focus on learning about our heritage and history through hands-on projects. These days will be a little more prone to grime, grease, and grit. The barn can be warm in the Summer and cool in the Winter. Please dress appropriately for the weather outside and bring water!

On no or low tech days:
Elementary Students – Please report to the Pioneer House for your group.
Middle School – Please report to the Pioneer House first to be placed in your group.
High School Students – Please report to the Barn for your group.

CAMP GIRL WITH GRIT

FALL AND SPRING 6 WEEK SESSIONS

The purpose of Camp Girl with Grit is to quickly saturate basic life skills that are needed for independent living. Camps have been called potentially life-saving and life-changing by law enforcement and behavioural scientists. We don’t discriminate but do ask for the registration to be limited to those that are born girls or identify as girls. 

FALL SESSION

10/20/23 to 12/1/23 (Off Thanksgiving Week) – Fridays, 5 to 7 PM

SPRING SESSION

To kick off Women’s History Month.

3/1/24 to 4/26/24 (Off 3/15 and 3/29 for Spring Break and Good Friday) – Fridays, 5 to 7 PM

First Week:
Hands-on Tools
Girls will learn about tools and build their very own birdhouse. They will leave with a basic understanding of all hand and power tools.

 

Second Week:
Drive and Thrive
Girls will learn how to change a tire, jump a battery, roadside safety, and vehicle maintenance.

 

Third Week:
Cookies and Construction
Girls will learn about various elements of construction over cookies. The goal of this class is to implement knowledge (i.e. wall structure, plumbing, electrical, etc.) about buildings that everyone needs to know in a fun, interactive way.

Fourth Week:
Don’t Panic!
We will cover how to handle some very simple and some very scary emergencies. Girls will get hands-on use with a fire extinguisher and learn how to deal with various emergencies from clogged toilets to bursting pipes.

Fifth Week:
Home Economics
Girls will learn basic household skills to help them achieve independence from culinary on the fly to hanging heavy curtains to patching a pair of jeans or a hole in the wall.

 Sixth Week:
Skill Station Showcase
Girls will showcase their new skills through an event families are welcome to attend. Girls will have access to 5 Skill Stations with hands-on projects or games. Girls will get their Girl with Grit Certification and Completion packet from the program.
